National Data Center - Bucharest, Romania National Institute for Earth Physics hosts the Romania's National Data Center (N142 ROM_NDC), where the data coming from AS81- MLR station and from the International Monitoring System (IMS), as well the products of the International Data Centre (IDC) in Vienna, Austria, are received and analyzed ROM_NDC operates the seismic station AS81 - MLR (Muntele Rosu) maintaining its uninterrupted participation in the to the global monitoring network of the verification system (IMS), and co-operates with national and international organizations for upgrading and maintaining the seismic station at the technical and operational standards required by the CTBT National Data Center at Bucharest consists of Central Data Acquisition System:
The comparison of ROM_NDC and IDC bulletins shows that most of the local earthquakes with magnitudes over 3.5 located by ROM_NDC (using the national seismological network) are also located by IDC using the IMS global seismological network. For the majority of common events the locations are in good agreement regarding epicenter, depth and origin time estimations. As recognition of Romania's and NIEP's contribution to CTBT activities, since 1995, Dr. Victoria Oancea, senior scientific researcher at NIEP, participated in the activities of the international team of the Prototype International Data Centre (PIDC) in Arlington, VA, USA, and was Director of Operations at the PIDC (1998-2001). Also, Dr. Victoria Oancea is Task Leader in the Working Group B in support of CTBTO, in charge with the elaboration of the Operational Manuals for the IMS stations covering the four verification technologies (seismological, hydroacoaustic, infrasound and radionuclide) One of the seismologists in the ROM_NDC team worked as seismic/hydroacoustic/infrasound analyst in the IDC, after participating in the IDC training course for analysts, in 2002. Other ROM_NDC team members participated/will participate in training courses organized by the IDC/IMS, improving their knowledge and getting more experience in operating an IMS station and an NDC.
