NIEP - Laboratories

NIEP is organized in six research departments: Seismological Research, National Network for Seismic Survey, National Data Centre, Structure and Dynamics of the Lithosphere, Engineering Seismology and Group for Magnetotelluric and Bioseismic Studies .

The main activities of the NIEP research departments are the following:

• Seismological Research Department:
   Seismic hazard
   Seismic source physics
   Seismotectonics

• National Network for Seismic Survey Departament:
   Monitoring of natural and induced seismicity
   Seismic data acquisition and archiving
   Compilation of bulletins and earthquake catalogues
   Data exchange with international seismological centers
  


• National Data Centre:
   Global seismic monitoring in support of the CTBT
  


• Structure and Dynamics of the Lithosphere Department:
   Lithosphere structure determination by seismic methods
   Crustal anisotropy
   Recent crustal deformations
  


• Engineering Seismology Department:
   Seismic risk and vulnerability
   Site effects and microzonation
  


• Group for Magnetotelluric and Bioseismic Studies:
   Earthquake prediction by electromagnetic and bioseismic methods
